Roots rocker Melissa Etheridge, last seen jamming on a New Jersey stage with Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, is preparing to release her first album since 1995's "Your Little Secret."
Titled "Breakdown" and produced by Etheridge and touring accomplice John Shanks, the new set will be broken down into three separate releases: one for casual fans, and two others for the die-hards (with Etheridge's record label, Island/Def Jam, no doubt, hoping for the real die-hards to pick up all three). Due in stores on October 5, the eleven track album will be available as a regular priced CD, or for a mere dollar more, a limited edition CD with three bonus tracks -- "Touch and Go," "Cherry Avenue," and "Beloved." The 12" vinyl version will contain one less song ("Scarecrow"), but that track will be included on a 7" vinyl single packaged with the LP (along with ten separate "art cards"). The 7" vinyl will also feature a non-CD track, "They Don't Know Me," on its flip side. Fans who can't wait until October for their Melissa fix will be glad to know that the album's first single, "Angels Would Fall," will be released as a CD single on August 31; the single will include two bonus tracks: "Into the Dark" and "They Don't Know Me." A video for "Angels Will Fall" has already been completed, featuring Etheridge in her directorial debut.
