After quietly sneaking through the back door of America's dance clubs, the Italian dance trio Eiffel 65 has managed to go platinum.
Propelled by the dance hit "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" (currently at number two on the singles chart), the group's album "Europop" reached the lofty one-million-unit platinum sales plateau this week. The album hit stores last November and will assume the number eight slot on the "Billboard" album chart next week. The album and the single (which has already topped the charts in England, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Spain, and numerous other exotic locales) are the handiwork of Maurizio Lobina, Jeffrey Jey, and Gabry Ponte, the three Italian production whizzes who record under the name Eiffel 65. The project is an off-shoot of the larger Bliss Corporation, a collection of producers, musicians, and studio-heads that is responsible for European dance hits such as Bliss Team's "People Have the Power."
