Legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan can add yet another international accolade to his storied career, as he and violinist Isaac Stern shared the ninth annual Polar Music Prize from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
Dylan and Stern were each presented with the award and an accompanying purse of one million Swedish Kronas (approximately $110,000) by King Carl XVI Gustaf during a ceremony in Stockholm on Monday, according to Reuters.
As part of the presentation, the Swedish Academy of Music commended Dylan for having "demonstrated an impressive ability to question the most determined political forces, to fight all forms of prejudice, and to offer unflinching support for the less fortunate."
Past winners of Sweden's Polar Music Prize have included Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, and Elton John.
In related news, Dylan will wrap up his current round of European dates on May 25 in Germany, and will then take a few weeks off before heading out an extended summer tour with co-headliner Phil Lesh, starting on June 16 in Portland, Oregon.
Dylan's most recent single, "Things Have Changed," a song he recorded for the soundtrack to the Curtis Hanson film, "Wonder Boys," is still holding strong on the Top 10 of the "R&R" Adult Alternative radio charts.
