The Donnas entered a bit of a time warp last weekend to shoot a video for the version of the Kiss classic "Strutter" that the band kicked in for the "Detroit Rock City" soundtrack.

The band (whose tough-girl, straight-up rock has always packed a vintage punch) found itself surrounded by extras decked out in '70s garb while shooting the "Strutter" clip on Sunday. The video, directed by Jude Weng, will find the ladies roaming the halls of Hollywood High leaving havoc in their wake. There will be plenty of performance shots as well with the band decked out in Kiss-inspired face paint.

While the look seems like a natural for the Donnas, the first treatment the band saw had them in less Donnas-esque duds, but the group soon reached a compromise.

"We told them we don't want to wear the Kiss makeup, but we want to wear the boots and the crazy sequined outfits, but their idea was white shirts and gray slacks with Kiss makeup," bassist Donna F. told MTV News.

"Not into it," drummer Donna C. added.

"We don't want to look like executives," singer Donna A. explained.

"We'll work it out though," Donna C. noted. "It'll be cool." [RealVideo]

The video will be the second from the "Detroit Rock City" soundtrack, with Everclear's cover of Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back In Town" hitting the air already. That video featured a cameo from Kiss' Gene Simmons, who will not be in the Donnas' clip, but stopped by the set of the video anyway on Sunday.

Folks will be able to see James DeBello, who plays Trip in "Detroit Rock City" and also turns up in "American Pie," in the video when it turns up in the coming weeks.

As we first reported last month, the Donnas' cover of "Strutter" will be released on a limited edition clear vinyl 45 with Kiss performing "Detroit Rock City" on the AA-side (see "Kiss Joins The Donnas On Vinyl"). Of course, it can also be found on the "Detroit Rock City" soundtrack, which is in stores now.

If you'd rather see the Donnas in the flesh, you'll get your chance when the band helps its label, Lookout Records, launch its first annual Lookout Freakout on Labor Day weekend. The four-day festival, kicking off September 4, will see The Donnas and labelmates such as The Mr. T Experience, The Smugglers, Pansy Division, The Groovie Ghoulies, and more take over a number of venues in the San Francisco area.
