Well hopefully it was good while it lasted for Britney Spears.
The recent chart-topper will see her debut album lose its grip on the number one spot on the chart next week according to sales figures released by SoundScan on Wednesday. The teen pop star doesn't fall far, dropping only two spots to number three after selling another 122,000 copies of "Baby One More Time."
The numbers actually mark an increase in sales for Britney, but she was done in by big debuts from Silkk The Shocker and Dave Matthews.
Silkk's "Made Man" will top the heap next week with an impressive 240,000 copies sold in its first week in stores, the biggest sales week of 1999 so far. Dave Matthews also posted strong first week numbers with "Live At Luther College," a two-CD that captures his 1996-1997 tour with Tim Reynolds. Matthews' album which boasts four previously-unreleased tracks, sold more than 186,000 copies in it first week in stores to land at number two.
Other new arrivals on the chart include Ani DiFranco (at 29 with "Up Up Up Up Up Up") and Depeche Mode (at 114 with "Singles 81-85").
