The ever-busy Coolio is currently starring in the independent film "Tyrone," in a role that has the rapper portraying no less than three different characters.

For the picture, Coolio has been cast in the part of the title role of Tyrone, as well as that of his twin brother, Jerome, and their triplet sister, Cherone.

"Tyrone," which started filming last week in Los Angeles, is described as a black comedy that revolves around a cross-country trip and the accidental killing of an escaped convict. The movie also stars Ethan Suplee of "Chasing Amy" and Kristin Minter of "ER."

In August, Coolio is slated to start shooting another film, "Midnight Mass," in which he plays a Jamaican mafia druglord. The rapper-turned-actor is also putting the finishing touches on a new album, which, according to his spokesperson, will feature the Kenny Rogers duet of "The Gambler" (see "Coolio And Kenny Rogers On New Version Of 'The Gambler'"), as well as some other "interesting collaborations."

That same month, Coolio's new record label, Crowbar Records, will release a compilation of its signed artists, including the rap group the 40 Thievez, and an alternative singer named Morgan.

In related news, the 34-year-old performer is also apparently mulling his long term goals, which might include a foray into yet another career -- this time within the political spectrum.

In a recent interview with the "Los Angeles Times," Coolio talks about the possibility of running for the office of mayor of Compton, California, in 10 years, although he admits that he'd "probably get killed."
