Rapper Shyne, whose real name is Jamal Barrow, has been formally indicted by a Manhattan grand jury on charges of attempted murder for his alleged role in last week's shooting at a New York City nightclub.
On Wednesday, Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau announced that Barrow has also been charged with assault in the first and second degree, reckless endangerment, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon.
Prosecutors say that Barrow shot three bystanders at Club New York in the early morning of December 27. But the grand jury is still considering whether or not to indict Sean "Puffy" Combs, who testified in front of the grand jury on Tuesday (see "Puff Daddy Takes Case To Grand Jury") about his possible role in the incident.
Combs and two other men were arrested and charged with criminal possession of a firearm, after the car he and girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were traveling in was pulled over by police while allegedly fleeing the scene and a gun was discovered near the front passenger seat.
While Puffy wasn't indicted on Wednesday, Morgenthau indicated that the charges against three other unnamed defendants who were arrested on the evening in question remain pending, and are still awaiting action by the grand jury.
New York news channel NY1 has reported that the grand jury won't make a decision on whether to indict Puffy and the other men until next week, saying that it wants to hear additional evidence.
Barrow faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of either the attempted murder charge or assault in the first degree, both of which are felonies.
