Clapton's new single, "My Father's Eyes," will arrive next month, while his full-length effort, "Pilgrim," won't hit stores until March 10.

Clapton actually debuted "My Father's Eyes" [1MB QuickTime] back in March of 1992 when he taped his "MTV Unplugged" performance, but the new version is a reggae-inflected studio recording, quite different from the original solo acoustic version.

In an interview before that "Unplugged" performance, Clapton talked about the motivation behind that song: the death of his 4-year-old son Connor in a fall from a Manhattan high-rise apartment, a tragedy that also inspired his song "Tears In Heaven."

"'My Father's Eyes' was a song that I wrote on holiday last year (1991) when I had a kind of revelation about my son," Clapton told MTV News.

"It's a very personal thing, but , so I wrote the song about that. It was a strange cycle thing that occurred to me, and another thing that I felt I would like to share."

The "Pilgrim" album will have 12 new Clapton tunes, plus a new Bob Dylan composition called "Born In Time." Clapton will then launch a two-month U.S. tour in late March.
