To smoke or not to smoke, that is the question...

A spokesperson for Public Enemy says that despite previous reports, the pioneering rap outfit will not be touring as part of this summer's Smokin' Grooves tour, and may not be hitting the road at all.

Kym Norsworthy, a rep with Rogers & Cowan (the PR firm currently working with PE) told MTV News that the Smokin' Grooves camp "erroneously reported" that Public Enemy would be on the tour. She said that while the group was "being pursued" by the tour, PE's involvement was never confirmed.

Norsworthy noted that Public Enemy has no firm plans for the summer, and that she is "99 percent" sure that the group will not be hitting the road in the coming months.

Meanwhile, the manager of PE centerpiece Chuck D confirmed that the band was never signed on for the tour, saying "as of right now" the group is not on the tour.

A spokesperson for House of Blues, the people behind Smokin' Grooves, says that an official line-up for the tour was never announced. However, in mid-April spokespeople for the tour said this summer's Smokin' Grooves line-up would include Public Enemy as well as Busta Rhymes, Wyclef Jean and the Refugee All-Stars, Cypress Hill, Gang Starr, and Canibus (see "Public Enemy, Busta Rhymes, Wyclef On Board For Smokin' Grooves").

According to House of Blues, the tour's final line-up should be firmed up within a week.
