U2's Bono and "Pulp Fiction" director Quentin Tarantino have both penned liner notes for separate volumes in a new Johnny Cash box set, "Love, God, & Murder," due out on Columbia/Legacy on May 23.

Reuters reports that Bono has been tapped to write the liner notes on the "God" disc, dubbed "Songs Of Inspiration," and featuring such Cash classics and gospel standards as "Why Me, Lord," "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," and "What On Earth Will You Do (For Heaven's Sake)."

Tarantino wrote the notes that accompany the box set's "Murder" disc, formally titled "Murder Ballads," and including such Cash country-rock tunes as "Delia's Gone," "Cocaine Blues," "Folsom Prison Blues," and 13 others.

Cash's wife, June Carter, rounds out the box set by providing commentary on the "Love Songs" disc, containing some of Cash's biggest crossover hits, such as "Ring Of Fire," I Walk The Line," and "A Little At A Time."

The U2 singer's admiration for Cash has been well documented, as the "Man In Black" previously appeared on "The Wanderer," a track off U2's 1993 LP, "Zooropa." U2 also participated in last year's TNT tribute to Cash (see "Springsteen, Wyclef, U2, Matthews, More Come Out For Cash"), performing a reggae-tinged version of "Don't Take Your Guns To Town."

For Tarantino, the Cash liner notes will be his first major project, film or music-related, since the release of his 1997 flick "Jackie Brown," the soundtrack for which included a Johnny Cash song, "Tennessee Stud."

In addition to Cash's three-volume "Love, God, & Murder" box set, each of the discs in the compilation will also be packaged separately and available as individual albums on May 23.
