After building up steam with its own club tour, Dallas quartet the Old 97's plans to derail from some of its previously announced shows in order to open a string of dates with Cake, beginning on June 6 in Detroit.

The Old 97's are currently riding the rails in support of its new album, "Fight Songs," and the first single, "Murder (Or a Heart Attack)," which is beginning to earn some heavy rotation from such rock outlets as KROQ in Los Angeles.

With its mix of jangle-pop guitars and three-part harmonies, "Fight Songs" is not as roughhewn as the band's previous punk-tinged albums, but the Old 97's recently told MTV News that its concerts will remain as raucous as ever.

"When we were making the record," offered guitarist-vocalist Rhett Miller,

"Live [we're] the same old thing," added bassist Murry Hammond.

"We're a sledgehammer of a live band," [RealAudio] Miller said. "That's what we do. We jump around and we get sweaty and we gradually turn our amps further and further up." Dates for the Old 97's club tour:
