July 21 [14:00 EDT] -- Boyz II Men will take it to the hoop for a good cause.
The group's Mike McCary will bring together Magic Johnson, SWV, Danny Glover, and professional athletes from the NBA, NHL, and Major League Baseball for the first annual Michael McCary and Friends Back-to-School Celebrity Basketball Challenge.
The event, set for August 16 at Detroit's Cobo Arena, is designed to encourage youth to stay in school, and to benefit the non-profit McCary Foundation, which provides guidance and financial assistance to young people. A portion of the proceeds from the game will benefit the national office of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, as well as the group's local Detroit chapter.
"In founding this organization," McCary said in a written statement, "I incorporated many of the values my mother instilled in our family. I am grateful that God has blessed me to extend this opportunity."
Those interested in checking out the game, and contributing to a good cause, can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster.
