Hip-hop star Mary J. Blige will team-up with former hoop all-star Michael Jordan in Los Angeles on Monday night to celebrate the launch of the newest line of Air Jordan basketball shoes.
Jordan, who helped lead the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships between 1991-98, will be on hand to unveil the Jordan XV shoe at the media event, which is being held at the NikeTown on Wilshire Boulevard. Blige plans to perform a cover of a 1985 Stevie Wonder song, "Overjoyed," that is being used as the theme tune for the new Air Jordan commercial. The ad is also slated to premiere at the VIP-only affair. The Jordan XV shoes are expected to be on sale at retail stores on December 11, although a limited number of the shoes will be available though Nike's official Web site on December 1. As for Blige, on Tuesday night she'll co-host the 1999 Annual Soul Train Christmas Starfest at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium along with Brian McKnight, Patti LaBelle, and Shemar Moore (see "Mary J. Blige To Co-Host Soul Train Christmas Special; Lines Up Other Holiday Appearances")-- David Basham
