Ben Folds of Ben Folds Five has just finished mastering a side project called "Fear of Pop: Volume One," that should arrive later this year.

The project, which is expected to arrive in the mid to late fall, is a collaborative effort with longtime Ben Folds Five producer Caleb Southern and John Marc Painter of the group Flemming and John.

Painter sings some backing vocals on the album, while "Star Trek" icon William Shatner turns in a spoken word track called "In Love."

Folds, of course, sings a few vocals on the album as well and also plays almost all of the instruments (including piano) on what is described as a mostly instrumental electronic and electronica club type album.
