The Canadian goof rock journeymen in Barenaked Ladies will unseat Monica on the top of the pop singles chart next week when the group's "One Week" becomes the number one song in the country.

While the Ladies owe a good deal of the song's success to on undeniably catchy hook as well as relentless touring and mass media exposure, they also owe at least a small debt of gratitude to savvy marketing. Instead of releasing the track as a single right away, the band's record label, Reprise, allowed the song to collect steam at radio and on MTV for the better part of the summer before making it available on the singles market a month ago.
