Never let it be said that the B-52's don't have a flair for celebrations.

The group marked the birthday of member Fred Schneider on stage Tuesday night with a set-stopping "Happy Birthday" serenade, lead by a 6'5" transvestite. In the midst of the band's encore at Richmond, Virginia's Classic Amphitheater, the crooning cross-dresser presented Fred with a birthday cake and led the crowd in the birthday classic.

Relatively unfazed, the band then went ahead with its encore and closed the show with "Rock Lobster."

The B-52s will continue to take their party to the people with the help of their tourmates, the Pretenders; the two bands will next play Atlanta on the Fourth of July. After that, the B-52s will play VH-1's Backyard Bar-B-Q on Labor Day.
