The strange summer of tour setbacks continues for British band the Verve, as opening act Massive Attack has announced that it will drop off the Verve's U.S. tour.

Sources close to Massive Attack wouldn't comment on the reasons for its departure, but the band now plans to mount a headlining tour of its own sometime in the fall and winter. The Verve is expected to name a replacement opening act soon.

In the meantime, the Verve plans to compensate for the recent loss of guitarist Nick McCabe (see "Verve Guitarist Drops Out Of Tour") by adding a pedal steel guitarist and a string section for its upcoming U.S. tour, which launches on July 28 in Chicago.
