September 9 [7:55 EDT] -- Mattel, the corporate parent of original plastic fashion icon Barbie is not amused at Aqua's current top ten hit "Barbie Girl."

A Mattel spokesperson says the song may be grounds for a trademark violation lawsuit, adding "If Aqua or anybody else is interested in dancing with Barbie dolls, they're going to have to ask us first."

There are, in fact, no actual Barbie dolls in Aqua's video, and the band's label notes on the single's liner notes that the song is "social comment" that was not approved by Mattel.
