Out Tuesday is the new album by singer Fiona Apple, and it comes complete with a 90-word title which those too pressed for time have compressed to "When The Pawn..."
The title of the album comes from a poem that Apple wrote, she says, to remind herself that she shouldn't listen to what mean people say. The first single is "Fast As You Can," and she talked with MTV News' Chris Connelly about how she wrote it as well as the rest of the songs on her new album. "I'll start out," Apple began, "and I'll write some words, and then I'll leave them alone for about two years or something like that, if I need to. If I don't feel like I have enough information, emotionally, or just from experience, to finish a thought that's been started, then I'll leave it alone until I do have that. So I started [the album], and I left it alone for a while and a few months ago finished it up." [RealVideo] Fiona Apple plans to kick off a tour to promote the new album in February, and she's scheduled to appear on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" on Tuesday night. The full title of the LP is "When The Pawn Hits The Conflicts He Thinks Like A King What He Knows Throws The Blows When He Goes To The Fight And He'll Win The Whole Thing 'Fore He Enters The Ring There's No Body To Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand And Remember That Depth Is The Greatest Of Heights And If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where To Land And If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right."
