Latin singer Marc Anthony may be considering a return to the stage.
Anthony, whose 1999 self-titled album has already achieved sales of 1.2 million, is apparently in talks to star in a new production of Federico García Lorca's "Blood Wedding" being mounted at the La Jolla Playhouse in La Jolla, California. Theater magazine "Playbill" reports that Anthony might join the cast of "Blood Wedding," scheduled to open at La Jolla on May 30, although he still has to log some time in the recording studio before committing to the project. "Playbill" also states that Jennifer Lopez has been rumored to be involved in "Blood Wedding," although her pending film projects would seem to rule out her participation in the play (see "Lopez Handles Music Success While Eyeing Film Roles"). Anthony will wrap up a North American tour on March 23 in Detroit, and rehearsals for "Blood Wedding," which tells the story of a bride who elopes with a different lover on the very day of her wedding, are scheduled to start on April 25. Anthony's last stage credit came in 1997-98, when he landed the role of the youthful Salvador Aragon in the Paul Simon musical "The Capeman." The production became one of the biggest financial flops in Broadway history when the $11 million show closed in March 1998 after less than 70 regular performances. This weekend, Anthony will perform a pair of songs, "I Need To Know" and "You Sang To Me," on "Mad TV," airing on the Fox Network on Saturday, March 18 at 11:00 (ET).
