Gang Starr's Guru has just completed recording sessions with Stephen Marley, who is producing a planned tribute album to his father, the legendary reggae star Bob Marley, entitled "Black Survivors."

Guru cut a new version of "Johnny Was," and Stephen Marley has also enlisted such artists as Lauryn Hill, Outkast and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry to lay down vocals on the album, which will feature contemporary artists duet-ing with the original recordings of Marley's vocals.

According to a representative of Island Records, Krayzie Bone, Erykah Badu, MC Lyte and the Lost Boyz will also contribute to "Black Survivors," the music for which is being remixed by Stephen, who is also a member of the Marley-offspring band the Melody Makers.

No word yet on what Marley tunes the other artists are covering, but we'll keep you posted. "Black Survivors" is tentatively slated for an early-summer release.
