Ian Brown Returns To North America With 'Golden Greats'

Ex-Stone Roses singer will hit 14 cities in support of second solo album.

Singer Ian Brown will head across the Atlantic to tour North America for the first time since he left psychedelic pop band the Stone Roses.

Supporting the release of his second solo album, Golden Greats (April 25), the singer will kick off his journey June 14 in Atlanta. The tour will hit 14 cities, with a final show July 3 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Brown, a veteran of the psychedelic sounds of the late-'80s "Madchester" scene, is trying to re-ignite a solo career that was disrupted by his arrest after the release of his 1998 solo debut, Unfinished Monkey Business. Convicted of threatening a flight attendant, Brown spent two months in a maximum-security prison in Manchester, England.

The songwriter continues with the swirling guitar sounds of his former band, but a brooding touch on such songs as "Babasonicos" (RealAudio excerpt) can be attributed to his time behind bars, where he says he wrote half the album. The sound is augmented by the addition of diverse instrumentation, such as the classical strings on "Free My Way" (RealAudio excerpt) and a funky bassline on "Love Like a Fountain."
