A monumental collection titled OHM: The Early Gurus of Electronic Music, 1948–1980, was released Tuesday (May 2). In addition to three CDs featuring pioneering recordings — from Olivier Messiaen's 1937 composition "Oraison" to a Raymond Scott 1959 ditty to Terry Riley's "Poppy Nogood" from 1968 — OHM also includes a 96-page mini-history with a foreword by Brian Eno and information on each artist. Tracks by seminal composers Steve Reich, La Monte Young and Karlheinz Stockhausen are included as well. ...

A compilation of electronic dub, A.K.A. Dub, will be released by Sweden's Lush Records in late May. Washington, D.C., downtempo duo Thievery Corporation's second album, The Mirror Conspiracy, is due Aug. 15. Eric Hilton and Rob Garza, who also run the Eighteenth Street Lounge in Washington, will release the record on their own label, ESL Music. Their acclaimed 1997 debut, Sounds From the Thievery Hi-Fi, was followed by a number of singles and remixes, plus two mix-CDs last year, including Abductions & Reconstructions and a DJ-Kicks mix. ...

Hyper-eclectic dance and funk artist Jimi Tenor will release his fifth album, Out of Nowhere, in July on Matador Records in the U.S. According to Tenor's UK label, Warp Records, the unpredictable Finnish singer and producer recorded the album in Poland with composer Zbigniew Karkovski and also worked with a 55-piece orchestra. Warp also said the record contains no electronic music or samples, and that it also will include vocals by the Pro Canto Choir of Lahti. Tenor's previous album was Organism, released last year on Warp/Sire. ...

Berlin-based ambient-dub producer Pole (born Stefan Betke) will release his second full-length album, Pole 3, on June 22 on Matador Records in the U.S. His recent single, on the German label Kiff S.A., features the tracks "Rondell One" and "Rondell Two" ("Rondell Two" will be on Pole 3). Pole is scheduled to perform on June 8 at the Brooklyn Anchorage in New York. ... Shoki Remixed, an album of remixes of tracks from Afrobeat star Femi Kuti's debut album, Shoki Shoki, was released in the U.S. for the first time Tuesday (May 2). Techno veteran A Guy Called Gerald will release his long-awaited fourth album, tentatively titled Essence, on Aug. 29 on Studio K7 Records.
