Eminem, Dr. Dre Top Online Hip Hop Awards

Busta Rhymes, Eastsidaz, Dead Prez, Rah Digga perform at New York ceremony.

COLOR="#003163">Eminem and his mentor,

Dr. Dre, snagged the

most awards Wednesday night at the 2000 Online Hip Hop

Awards, receiving three each.

Eminem, who did not attend, was honored with Best Artist

Website (Eminem.com), Hottest Music Video ("Guilty

Conscience") and Best New Artist. Dr. Dre, also absent, was

named Producer of the Year, and Dr. Dre 2001 was named

Album of the Year. His Web site (www.interscope.com/drdre) won

Outstanding Graphic Design.

Black Star members

Mos Def and

Talib Kweli received

the Revolutionary Award, presented by New York political activist

the Rev. Al Sharpton.

"Honestly, I'm pretty low-tech," Mos Def said. "But I do enjoy the

Web ... and seeing hip-hop on the Web. I think hip-hop adds a

unique resonance to the whole Internet reality."

COLOR="#003163">Rass Kass, and

COLOR="#003163">See-Rayz-Walz, winner of

MusicMatrix.com's Best Unsigned Artist Contest, performed at the

ceremony at the swanky downtown restaurant Cipriani

Dead Prez got the

crowd jumping with a live rendition of "Hip Hop" (

href="http://media.addict.com/music/Dead_Prez/Hip_Hop.ram">Re

alAudio excerpt), and

COLOR="#003163">Cypress Hill ended the evening

with performances of their hits "Hand on the Pump" (

href="http://media.addict.com/music/Cypress_Hill/Hand_On_The_P

ump.ram">RealAudio excerpt) and "How I Could Just Kill a

Man."

Fans voted for the awards at www.onlinehiphopawards.com.

HipHopSite.com won Website of the Year, TheSource.com won

Best Magazine/E-zine Website and DefJam.com won Best

Record Label Site.

HipHopSite.com also won the Online Hip Hop Award of the Year.

Okayplayer.com, which hosts artist pages for the

COLOR="#003163">Roots,

COLOR="#003163">D'Angelo,

COLOR="#003163">Common and the

COLOR="#003163">Jazzy Fat Nastees, earned the

Best New Website award.

COLOR="#003163">?uestlove of the Roots, who runs

the site, said it's "the only Web site in which the artist has

interaction with the public."

Grandmaster Flash,

Bobbito Garcia and

Crazy Legs presented

awards to the Best Website Dedicated to the Art of Graffiti and

Best Website Dedicated to the Art of B-boying/Breakdancing

(both to Hip-Hop.com). Scratch.dk won the prize for Best Website

Dedicated to the Art of Turntablism/DJing, and OHHLA.com got

one for Best Website Dedicated to the Art of Emceeing.

DJ Kuttin Kandi, who

performed early in the night with

COLOR="#003163">Roli Rho and

COLOR="#003163">Neil Armstrong of the

COLOR="#003163">5th Platoon turntablist crew, said

the Web is an important place for turntablism. Her crew's Web site,

5th-Platoon.com, was also up for Best Website Dedicated to the

Art of Turntablism.

"It definitely connects a lot of people who wouldn't normally meet,"

she said. "I've met a lot of people through the Internet from all

over the world."

SupportOnlineHipHop.com and UBO.com organized the awards

show, and LL Cool J

and Angie Martinez

hosted.
