Dorian Label Plumbs Shakespeare Era

Shakespeare didn't write this music, but he wrote the words for many songs, and his plays mention some other pieces. The 33 tracks of this CD — which comes out Tuesday (April 11) — include Robert Johnson's "Where the Bee Sucks," John Dowland's "Fortune My Foe," Thomas Morley's "It Was a Lover and His Lass" and numerous tunes by that ubiquitous composer, Anonymous. The selection is a sampler taken from 10 CDs in Dorian's early-English-music catalog — the best in the U.S. and probably the world.
