Pearl Jam Tap Dismemberment Plan To Open European Tour

Washington, D.C., post-punk band will join rock superstars in Czech Republic.

Brainy post-punkers the Dismemberment Plan will open for Pearl Jam in Europe this summer, representatives for both bands said.

Pearl Jam's outing kicks off May 23 in Lisbon, Portugal, with the Dismemberment Plan joining them June 14 in Prague, the Czech Republic. The shows run through early July. The Dismemberment Plan are on a tour of the U. S. and Canada that lasts into May.

"[Pearl Jam] got in touch with us a few weeks ago to see if we were interested," Travis Morrison, singer/guitarist for the Washington, D.C., group, wrote on the band's Web site (www.dismembermentplan.com). "I almost blew it when I misdialed the number for their management company and got an Indian restaurant and figured that it was, indeed, a prank."

The Dismemberment Plan's third album, Emergency & I (1999), was co-produced by Burning Airlines and ex–Jawbox guitarist J. Robbins.

Pearl Jam's sixth studio album, Binaural, is due May 23. Their previous disc, Live on Two Legs (1998), included concert recordings of such songs as "Daughter" (RealAudio excerpt of live version ).
