Hold On To These Holdovers

The indie-rock veterans meld their lo-fi past and hi-fi future on this consistently tuneful EP, a sort of companion volume to 1999's Do the Collapse. That album's missing title track — which turns out to be a hard-rocking, instrumental pop song — turns up here, as does the album's sublime ballad "Hold on Hope." The rest of the EP moves surprisingly smoothly between Alien Lanes–like home recordings and relatively slick Ric Ocasek–produced Collapse leftovers.
