Bad Livers' Danny Barnes Launches Acoustic Supergroup

Multi-instrumentalist creates ensemble Thee Old Codgers.

Apparently not content with the freedom allowed by his current band, the eclectic Bad Livers, whose songs include "New York City" (RealAudio excerpt), multi-instrumentalist Danny Barnes has formed a "more acoustic ensemble," Thee Old Codgers.

The trio consists of Barnes, who composes the music and plays banjo and guitar, Jon Parry on violin and Keith Lowe on bass.

Parry played and toured with the Goose Creek Symphony, "a major influence on (my) writing," Barnes said. Lowe currently tours with Fiona Apple and Bill Frisell.

"Thee Old Codgers represent the creative side of bluegrass/acoustic/picking music," Barnes said. "Think of Thee Old Codgers as a Northwest acoustic supergroup."
