The next Soundbombing compilation album released by Rawkus Entertainment will include songs from Common, Hittman, Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, Mobb Deep and other rappers with an underground following, according to DJ Cipha Sounds, who's helping to oversee the album's production.
The 23-year-old club DJ and A&R man said Tuesday night that Rawkus Presents Soundbombing III might hit stores as early as August. Rawkus, a New York indie label, released Soundbombing II in the summer. The album mixed contributions from established rappers such as Common, Eminem, Company Flow, Mos Def and the High and Mighty with underground stalwarts such as Medina Green, Dilated Peoples, Thirstin Howl III and the Beat Junkies.
The first Soundbombing compilation came out in 1997 and featured Mos Def, RA the Rugged Man and Indelible MCs. The Common single "One-Nine-Nine-Nine," from Soundbombing II, was a top-10 hip-hop hit in the summer. That second album debuted at #30 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
