Czech Festival, Hollywood Bowl Season On The Way

Aspen Festival is marking 51st season with opening of new facility.

The Czech Republic's four greatest composers, Antonín Dvorák , Bedrich Smetana, Leos Janácek and Bohuslav Martinu, will be featured in a festival at New York's Lincoln Center in three concerts April 29 and 30 and May 2, with Sir Colin Davis conducting the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Soloists will include violinists Tabea Zimmermann and Sarah Chang.

The Aspen Music Festival and School will open its 51st season with a new performing facility, the Benedict Music Tent. The new venue replaces the Bayer-Benedict Music Tent, which the festival has used for the past 35 years. Festival performances will run from June 21 through August 20, with a special concert featuring Gustav Mahler's Second Symphony conducted by David Zinman) inaugurating the new tent on June 24.

The Hollywood Bowl's subscription season will begin on July 9 and continue through Sept. 17. Subscription tickets are on sale, and tickets for single performances will become available May 14. Programs include standard classics, jazz, Broadway tunes, concert performances of Madame Butterfly and Carousel and a program in honor of Louis Armstrong's 100th birthday.
