Dublin-based singer Niamh Parsons has completed her new album, In My Prime, scheduled to be released in August on the Green Linnet label.
In My Prime features a mix of traditional Irish and contemporary material. Acoustic textures dominate the album, though more than one track is performed a cappella. In sessions at Dublin’s Solitaire Studio, Parsons and co-producer Steve Dunford cultivated a spare sound in order to emphasize the material and the vocals.
Parsons’ previous album, last year’s Blackbirds and Thrushes, is one of five contenders for Celtic Album of the Year honors from the American Federation of Independent Music; the award will be presented at the organization’s convention, held in May in Cleveland.
Parsons is currently touring Europe. Though she plans to appear in the U.S. to support In My Prime, her only confirmed U.S. concert is at Boston’s Gaelic Roots Festival in June.
