Members of Phish, Primus, Police Form Supergroup

Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool and Stewart Copeland will play at Jazz and Heritage Fest in New Orleans.

A supergroup featuring Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, Primus bassist Les Claypool and ex–Police drummer Stewart Copeland will perform at New Orleans' Saenger Theater on May 4, during the city's Jazz and Heritage Festival.

The trio, calling themselves Oysterhead, debuted at a Feb. 21 Primus show at the University of Vermont, in Phish's hometown of Burlington. Claypool and Anastasio first jammed together at the Laguna Seca Daze festival near Monterey, Calif., in 1994. Copeland produced "Dirty Drowning Man" for Primus' 1999 album Antipop.

The show also will feature Garage a Trois, another supergroup, featuring eight-string jazz guitar virtuoso Charlie Hunter, Galactic drummer Stanton Moore and jazz saxophonist Skerit — also a member of Critters Buggin and Tuatara (which includes R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck).

Tickets for the event went on sale Friday.
