Famed Folk Collection Due

Upcoming volume of Anthology of American Folk Music was conceived almost 50 years ago.

Archival label Revenant Records will release a fourth volume of the famed Anthology of American Folk Music on May 23, the label said. The two-disc set, which includes a hardbound book of liner notes by the Fugs' Ed Sanders, guitarist (and label owner) John Fahey and writer Greil Marcus, will feature tracks by the Carter Family, Bukka White, Robert Johnson, Sleepy John Estes, Lead Belly and numerous others. The set was conceived by folk archivist Harry Smith almost 50 years ago but never released, according to Revenant. The first three volumes of Smith's 1952 series — which have influenced untold numbers of musicians, including Bob Dylan — were reissued in 1997.
