DJ Claims To Have Early Young Songs

Neil Young, Smashing Pumpkins, Tears For Fears, Grandaddy, Mac, Neko Case, U2, Trey Anastasio, Stewart Copeland, Les Claypool ...

A Canadian disc jockey said he has found the earliest known recordings of grunge-rock godfather Neil Young in a forgotten box of personal tapes. Bob Bradburn, 62, said he emceed shows for Young and his early band the Squires and recorded four tracks with the four-piece group at a Winnipeg radio station in 1964. One song, "I Wonder," features the youthful Young's vocals, while the rest are instrumentals. Bradburn said the 36-year-old tape is in excellent shape, adding that he is negotiating with Young's management to turn it over for possible inclusion on Young's in-the-works archival collection. Young's management could not be reached for comment by press time. The singer is on tour as part of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
