D'Arcy Wretzky faces drug charges in Chicago.

Former Smashing Pumpkins bassist D'Arcy Wretzky was arrested two weeks ago on drug charges in Chicago, according to Patti Simone, a spokesperson for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. Wretzky, who formed the Pumpkins with Billy Corgan in 1989 but quit the group in the fall, reportedly to pursue acting, is due in Cook County Criminal Court on Monday (Feb. 14) on charges of possessing a controlled substance. The specific substance could not be confirmed at press time. She was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Jan. 25 on West Lake Street, Simone said. The Pumpkins fired drummer Jimmy Chamberlin after touring keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin, who was

with Chamberlin, died from a heroin overdose in 1996. But Chamberlin returned to the group last year and appears on the album MACHINA/the machines of God, due Feb. 29.
