Lyle Lovett Plays College Benefit Show

Performance with Robert Earl Keen aids victims of bonfire accident at Texas A&M University.

Country-pop singer Lyle Lovett and folk singer/songwriter Robert Earl Keen performed a charity concert Sunday (Feb. 6) at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, to benefit victims of a 1999 bonfire accident and their families. The concert, at Reed Arena, was preceded by a video featuring news footage of the Nov. 18 accident, in which 12 people died and 27 were hurt, according to a Reed Arena representative. About 10,000 people attended the show, which aided the Bonfire Relief Fund to help offset medical and other costs related to the accident. Organizers estimated the event raised $100,000. Lovett and Keen both attended the school in the late 1970s.
