Wonder Performs At Motown Musician's Funeral

Plays Duke Ellington's 'Satin Doll' at service for Thomas 'Beans' Bowles.

R&B singer/songwriter Stevie Wonder performed jazz composer and bandleader Duke Ellington's "Satin Doll" at the funeral for Motown musician Thomas "Beans" Bowles in Detroit on Saturday (Feb. 5), the Associated Press reported. Bowles, a baritone saxophonist who played on several of the famed soul label's hits and helped design the traveling Motown Revue, died of prostate cancer Jan. 28, after a 10-year battle with the disease. He was 73. "This is a celebration of an angel on Earth," Wonder reportedly said during the service. He called Bowles "a teacher and also a father."
