MP3.com Sues Music Industry

Beck, Foo Fighters, Cure, Jimmy Page, Black Crowes, Collective Soul, Bon Jovi, Dave Grohl, Dr. Dre ...

Claiming it's the victim of music industry "bullying tactics," downloadable-music site MP3.com sued the Recording Industry Association of America on Monday (Feb. 7), alleging unfair business practices. "Since inception [in 1998], MP3.com has faced the increasingly aggressive tactics of the RIAA and its leadership," MP3 chief executive officer Michael Robertson said in a statement. Details of the case were not revealed. MP3.com could not be reached for comment early Tuesday morning; a call to the RIAA was not returned immediately. Last month, the RIAA sued MP3.com, alleging the Web site's programs that allow listeners to store MP3 copies of CDs online violate the copyrights of artists and record labels.
