Ex-Prince Keyboardist Produces Cover

Dr. Fink worked with Iowa hardcore band 35" Mudder on version of 'When Doves Cry.'

Dr. Fink, who played keyboards for Prince's '80s backing band, the Revolution, produced and mixed a cover of Prince's "When Doves Cry" by an unsigned Iowa hardcore band Thursday and Friday at his Star View studio in Minneapolis. 35" Mudder, who are managed by ex-Tears for Fears singer Curtis Smith and former Prince road manager Mark Adelman, plan to include the song on a four-track EP they'll sell locally and at shows starting in March, according to bassist Chad Calek. The song is already getting airplay on Des Moines, Iowa, radio station Lazer 103.3. "We chose the song because of its dark lyrical content," Calek said. "It was probably the hardest thing we've ever done."
