Sleater-Kinney To Kick Off Tour With Benefit

Trek in support of upcoming All Hands on the Bad One begins late April in Olympia, Wash.

Olympia, Wash., punk trio Sleater-Kinney are prepping for a six-week U.S. tour to coincide with the May release of their fifth album, All Hands on the Bad One, according to the group's label, Kill Rock Stars.

The trek begins April 29 with a benefit to raise money for the upcoming Ladyfest 2000, a festival spotlighting women's contributions to culture. The Aug. 1–6 gathering will feature concerts, art shows, workshops and activism. Sleater-Kinney will appear at the event in Olympia along with Bratmobile, the Gossip and singer/songwriters Sarah Dougher and Lois Maffeo.

Sleater-Kinney's fourth album, The Hot Rock (1999), followed up 1997's critically acclaimed Dig Me Out (RealAudio excerpt of title track). The Hot Rock revealed the gentler side of the band's raucous punk sound, as on "Banned From the End of the World" (RealAudio excerpt) and "Get Up" (RealAudio excerpt).

Also appearing on these dates are punk bands the Gossip, the Bangs (May 9–14) and the Butchies (May 16–22).
