Sonique First Signing To Net Label

London DJ lands deal with Jimmy and Doug's Farm Club.

Jimmy and Doug's Farm Club — the new Universal Music imprint from producer Jimmy Iovine and Universal executive Doug Morris that hopes to find talent from bands submitting work online — has found its first artist the old-fashioned way. The label's first signing is Sonique, a London DJ, whom the label said it discovered through traditional offline scouting. Sonique will release the single "It Feels So Good" next week, with an album following in February, a publicist said. She'll also be one of the first artists featured on Farm Club's weekly television series "FarmClub.com" on the USA cable channel in late January. MTV.com and SonicNet also will promote the label, MTV Networks CEO Tom Freston said at its unveiling last month. (SonicNet is a division of MTV Interactive.)
