Marley Mentor Joe Higgs Dead At 59

Reggae singer Joe Higgs, who served as a mentor to reggae legend

Bob Marley, died Saturday (Dec. 18) in Los Angeles, according to

the Los Angeles Times. Higgs, who was 59, gave Marley voice and

guitar lessons, and also taught singer Peter Tosh, among others.

Higgs scored his first hits in the late '50s as part of the duo Higgs

and Wilson before beginning a solo career in the late '60s. Higgs'

debut solo album, Life of Contradiction, was released in 1975.
