Nas Plans Rap Remake Of Opera

Rapper to rework Bizet's "Carmen" for telecast.

Nas will do a rap remake of the Bizet opera "Carmen" for an MTV telefilm called "Hip-Hopera." "It's like the classic 'Carmen Jones' with Dorothy Dandridge and Harry Belafonte," Nas told the MTV Radio Network, referring to a 1954 film version of the opera featuring an African-American cast. "Instead, it's gonna be Rosario Dawson, and I'll be playing the part of her boyfriend, or somethin' like that. And it's like a musical, a hip-hop musical on MTV." Last month, Nas released Nastradamus, his second studio album of the year. His label, Columbia, will webcast footage of Nas discussing the album as well as a video feature on its site (www.columbiarecords.com) Dec. 15, a label spokesperson said.
