Hard-rockers Sevendust will launch an eight-date tour with fellow bands Static-X and Dope before hooking up with Metallica for a New Year's Eve show, according to the band's label.
The mostly East Coast jaunt will kick off Dec. 5 in Rochester, N.Y., and wind up Dec. 18 in Detroit.
Sevendust's sophomore album, Home, was released on TVT Records in August. The Atlanta group's singer, LaJon Witherspoon, said the hard-rocking effort was inspired by a nearly two-year tour the band had mounted to promote its eponymous 1997 debut.
"You think about how much you learn within a year," Witherspoon, 26, said in September. "After two years on the road, we would damn sure learn, and we went back into the studio ready to record a second album."
After the headlining dates, Sevendust will go out with heavy-metal pioneers Metallica, who will lay down their orchestral experiments for shows that also will feature rap-rocker Kid Rock and rockers Creed.
Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose said earlier this month that his band would give anything to play with its heroes in Metallica.
"They only released the best album of the decade, Master of Puppets," Rose said of Metallica's landmark 1986 speed-metal album. "Playing New Year's Eve with them could be the only thing next to Woodstock that I can think of that could be cooler. We just wanted to be part of the whole thing. I'll be happy just to play for the janitors in the venue before the show starts, I don't care."
Sevendust and Kid Rock also will join Metallica for shows in the Midwest from Jan. 1Jan. 9
Besides those dates, Rose said Sevendust hope to tour with Kid Rock in the new year as well. "We're good friends with Kid Rock and Creed," he said.
"We've toured with Kid Rock and hopefully we'll end up doing some more stuff with him after the Metallica dates. There's talk of us going out on the road with him after that."
