Ex–Ginger Spice Tops Baby Spice

Geri Halliwell's "Lift Me Up" debuted at #1 on the British singles

chart this week, beating out Halliwell's onetime Spice Girls

bandmate Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton, whose "What I Am" hit the chart

this week at #2. Halliwell, known as "Ginger Spice" before she left the

pop group last year, was quoted by the BBC as saying she was "absolutely

gobsmacked" at the chart victory. "I'm the happiest girl in England,"

she reportedly said. "Lift Me Up" is the third UK single from Halliwell's

debut solo album, Schizophonic (1999). Bunton's "What I Am," a

collaboration with the production team Tin Tin Out, is her first

solo release.
