A bodyguard for rapper Kurupt was killed Sunday night (Oct. 17)
and two others were injured when at least two men fired gunshots at them
outside a recording studio in Los Angeles, according to police and
representatives for the rapper. Dwayne "Draws" Dupree, 23, died from
multiple gunshots to the torso, and Jevon "Realistic" Jones and Willard
"Act Da Fool" Givers were wounded in the foot and calf, respectively, according to Los
Angeles police spokesperson April Archer. Jones and Givers, who
representatives for Kurupt described as friends of the rapper, were
treated at a local hospital and released. Glenn Manko, general manager
at Kurupt's label, Antra Music Group, said Kurupt (born Ricardo Brown)
was working at Echo Sounds studio with his partner in Tha Dogg Pound,
Daz Dillinger (born Delmar Arnaud), but would not say if they were
outside at the time of the shootings. Police said the suspects opened
fire on the victims without warning or provocation, and they do not know
of a motive.
