Former Verve Singer Continues Solo Recording

Richard Ashcroft, former singer for The Verve, is continuing

work on his solo debut in London, according to his UK spokesperson. The

album is expected sometime next year. The singer's camp is keeping

tight-lipped about the project, according to the spokesperson, who said

he had no information on a producer or musicians for the disc. When The

Verve announced their breakup in April, the band said drummer Peter

Salisbury would work with Ashcroft. The English band, known for forays

into big rock sounds at a time when hip-hip and pop dominated the music

scene, had its biggest U.S. hit with "Bitter Sweet Symphony," from their

final album, Urban Hymns (1997).
