PBS To Air Gram Parsons Tribute
PBS television will air a special "Sessions at West 54th Street," honoring
the late Gram Parsons, on Nov. 5. Known for his work with the
Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers, Parsons is credited
as a pioneer of the country-rock fusion that gave rise to groups like
the Eagles. The special, recorded Sept. 19 (on the 26th anniversary
of Parsons' death), features performances by Chris Hillman,
Steve Earle, the Mavericks, Whiskeytown, Gillian
Welch and David Rawlings, Victoria Williams and
Mark Olsen, Jim Lauderdale, Emmylou Harris,
Sheryl Crow, and John Hiatt. The TV special comes in the
wake of the tribute album Return of the Grievous Angel: A Tribute to
Gram Parsons. Proceeds from the album will benefit the Vietnam
Veterans of America Foundation's "Campaign for a Landmine Free World."
