Spice Girls, TLC Get Academic Treatment

Academics will gather outside Nashville on Oct. 1–3 to discuss pop

stars the Spice Girls, Madonna and TLC, rappers

Puff Daddy and the Fugees, punks the Make-Up and

Black Flag and others. The presentations are part of the annual

U.S. meeting of the International Association for the Study of Popular

Music. The conference (www.mtsu.edu/~pfischer/) is open to the public.

Three SonicNet and Addicted To Noise contributors — Chris

Nelson, Kembrew McLeod and Cynthia Fuchs — will be among the panelists

addressing rock criticism, women in rock and music censorship.
