John Lennon Guitar Brings $225,000

The guitar John Lennon played the day he met future Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney in 1957 sold at auction Tuesday (Sept. 14) for $225,000, according to newswire reports. The Gallotone Champion acoustic guitar was bought at the London auction by an anonymous New Yorker who described Lennon in a statement as "one of the most important, if not the most important, musician of the 20th century," according to the Associated Press. Shortly after their meeting, McCartney joined Lennon in the Quarrymen, the band that evolved into the Beatles.
